Eco-Justice Worship Collective

In Uncategorized on January 13, 2012 at 9:57 am

Mid-Kentucky Presbytery is launching a new initiative called the “Eco-Justice Worship Collective.” Rebecca Barnes-Davies will be organizing a montly evening worship, for anyone who would like to join. Each month focused on a different ecological/theological/biblical theme (such as water, land, air/spirit).

Eco-Justice Worship
Sat, Jan 21, at 5pm
back building, Crescent Hill Presbyterian Church

We will gather as a community of Christians from all backgrounds, as seekers of global justice, as lovers of the world, and/or as advocates for earth’s healing. This month’s worship theme is “Waters of Birthing;” we will explore the issue of water from a biblical, theological, and environmental lens.

The Eco-Justice Worship Collective (“creating dynamic, ecumenical, inclusive worship space to engage in eco-justice concerns”) is a new initiative of the Presbytery of Mid-Kentucky’s Ecclesia Project and is supported by CHPC. For questions or information, please contact Rebecca at r_barnesdavies@yahoo.com or see http://ecojusticeworship.wordpress.com.”

Also at the University of Louisville
PEACC will be sponsoring a workshop, Friday, January 20th from 3-5 pm exploring the intersections between “Faith, Social Justice, and Leadership”. The afternoon will engage campus leaders from various faith backgrounds in the spiritual call to social justice through faith-sharing, discussion and structured reflection. We will meet in the PEACC Office. Refreshments will be served. Kinesis has been invited to nominate a student to attend. Please let me know if you are interested in representing us for this unique student lead experience!

“This guy eats with sinners” Luke 15:2

Last fall something miraculous happened when we started hosting Kinesis dinners at our house every month. In the process of fitting everyone into our apartment, gathering around table, playing games and eating some delicious desserts – we became church. In 2012, I would like to invite you into a larger experiment in hospitality. I would like to invite you to help create weekly dinners for young adults at Fourth Presbyterian Church.

Some of us recently heard the author Sara Miles speak at the Montreat College Conference. She said something to the effect of:

You should not do good things just because you feel obligated. If you are following the gospel because you are suppose to, then you are better off staying home. However if you feel called to live out some radical hospitality, then do it – and just see what happens.
